Connect Cursor (Agent CLI)
Who this is for: anyone with a Cursor plan who runs the Cursor Agent CLI on their own runner.
What this does: walks you through creating a Cursor user API key and adding it to your vault, so SpiderGate can lend it to the official Cursor CLI.
Before you begin
A Cursor plan. Since 12 October 2026, Cursor is sold as part of The X Subscription; Cursor says older plans (Hobby, Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams) "keep working as they are".
A runner with the Cursor CLI installed. The command is
agent.About 3 minutes.
Limits and terms to know first
Cursor says "User API keys bill to that user's plan". Paid X Subscription plans share a weekly usage pool between Grok and Cursor, and the Plus plan offers Grok models only.
SpiderGate never answers a chat request with this login. It keeps the credential in your vault and lends it, a short pass at a time, to the official CLI running on your own runner. The key is never shared with the SpiderIQ pool. See Your Subscriptions for how a runner reads its free lease slots.
Warning: Cursor's terms say you may not "rent, lease, lend, or sell the Service". Keep this key to your own brand.
Note: This page is about lending your Cursor plan to the Cursor CLI. To point the Cursor editor at SpiderGate instead, see Connect Cursor to SpiderGate.
Steps
Step 1 — Create a user API key
Open Cursor Dashboard → API Keys and generate a user API key. Copy it.
Step 2 — Add it in SpiderGate
Open Gate → Vault (/dashboard/gate/vault) and click Add Provider. Under Connect a subscription, choose Cursor from the paste-a-key entries. Paste the key into Cursor user API key and add a Label. Billing is fixed to Subscription. Optionally set CLI leases. Click Add key.
Verify it worked
When you click Add key, SpiderGate checks the key by running Cursor's own CLI with it. If Cursor refuses it, the dialog shows The cursor key did not pass its check: Cursor's own CLI says this API key is invalid. Nothing was saved.
Once saved, GET /api/gate/v1/subscriptions (see Your Subscriptions) returns it with usage: lease and lease.free_slots.
Troubleshoot
That does not look like a Cursor API key. You pasted something else, such as a password or a key from another product. Copy the user API key again from the Cursor dashboard.
Cursor key check is unavailable right now — try again in a minute. SpiderGate's checker could not run Cursor's CLI. Try again shortly.
Too many keys checked for this workspace; try again in …s. SpiderGate runs at most 20 key checks per brand in any 10 minutes. Wait the number of seconds it gives, then click Add key again.
Request timed out (15s) or Could not reach … to check the key. Try again later. The provider did not answer in time. Nothing was saved. Try again in a minute.
The provider is rate-limiting us (429). Try again in a minute. The provider throttled the check itself. Wait a minute and retry.
